Take the Mystery out of Gluten Free Cooking

If you have decided to go gluten free by choice as has current men’s tennis champion Noval Djokovic, or gluten free by need as has television personality Elisabeth Hasselbeck, there is no mystery and no two-ways about it.. You must avoid products that contain wheat, barley, oats and rye. Period.

Ok, now how do you go about maintaining a healthy diet absent those four ingredients? You can still have ham & eggs, toast and home fries for breakfast. A gilled cheese & tomato sandwich with chips and pickles for lunch. A plate of chicken, broccoli and pasta for dinner. And top off the day with a slice of apple pie and vanilla ice cream.

Prepare your meals as you ordinarily would only for toast, for example, substitute store-bought bread with home made gluten free bread. Same with chicken, broccoli and pasta. Store-bought untreated chicken is gluten free as is broccoli, and many suppliers provide excellent wheat-free pasta.

Does it take getting used to? No question, yes. At times it can be discouraging and frustrating but over a period of time, you’ll master the technique of gluten free cooking and reap the rewards of having done so.

For starters you may want to visit our website, www.gfhomecooking.com, where we list, with pictures, over 150 day-to-day recipes and we’re adding more every month. Best yet, we’d love to add your favorite home cooked meal so take a minute, write down a brief description, list the ingredients and portions, the how to, and we’d be happy to include it under your signature.
